Fashion Week Spring 2019 Recap
Tom Ford
OMG. That is honestly all I can say after seeing this show! Tom really killed it! I loved his direction and the simplicity of the line. Maybe I’m biased because one day when I’m rich and successful this will be my go to look for any occasion. The line screamed sophistication in such a non-traditional way and I’m obsessed. With the lace and leather detailing to the exposed breast look, this is definitely what I would call sexy simplicity. Each look had its own unique feel, yet none of them were raunchy. Even the looks which exposed the breast screamed sophistication, power, and respect. Yes, her boobs are exposed but any woman who walks into a room with this look will command it.
I love Tom’s stride to embody movement in each piece regardless of the fabric. He made sure you could see movement in every ripple created as the models strutted down the runway. The theme of the entire collection seemed to be about simple statement pieces. Colors were muted, and silhouettes have been seen before. Instead it was all about texture, movement, and reflection. The way the garment moved and appeared visually as the model walked was the selling point for this collection, the fabrics speak for themselves. You don’t need to be a fashion maven to pull it off, the boss strut comes with each piece requiring very little to make a statement.
The Blonds:
This show was great and took a very interesting approach on the Disney Villains we all grew up with. For their Spring 2019 line, The Blonds collaborated with Disney Villain to create an extravagant collection which definitely dropped jaws. This collection was fun and took a unique yet fabulous take on the villains with looks inspired by Cruaella De Vil, The Queen of Hearts, Ursula and many others. If you want something over the top, dripped in glitter, and rare then look no further because being bad never looked so good! There were distinct pieces which were clearly themed, yet there were also others which incorporated childlike wonder. Yet they were translated in a fierce and extravagant way which will keep eyes on you no matter where you are. Even though the collection is in collaboration with Disney the brand still maintained a theme of accepting who you are and being fierce while you do it. With each look they made sure that it stood out and made a large statement which speaks for itself. The Blonds found a way to take a concept and make it their own. To me this collection is about finding your inner villain/bad ass and letting it out, let it be seen, heard, and eventually imitated.
Michael Kors
This show was very bright and playful in it’s delivery. There were many fun spring colors and lots of florals to peruse as the models quickly came down the runway. I’m not sure if this was for time purposes or just the vision Michael had, but the models walked very quickly with one behind the other. There were about three models on the floor at a time, but there was enough spacing between them to get a full idea of each look.
The collection definitely gave me “free spirit”/ “hippy” vibes but in a good way. While watching the show it was very refreshing to see all of the different looks and the fluidity which encompassed each look. Everything had movement and a loose fit to the body making it easy and fun to wear with all of the fringe and ruffles. Another thing I honestly loved about this collection was all of the matching sets! There were literally pieces that matched from the jacket all the way down to the shoe. Great marketing move if you ask me; how can you get the top and not the matching shoes to go with it?
Savage X Fenty
I really loved the creativity and unique show that Rhianna put on for her first Fashion Week appearance. The show was in its own category compared to the previous ones I reviewed. The entire show was entirely an interpretive dance. Every movement and action that the models performed had meaning and power. Throughout the whole performance, every woman that grazed the stage exuded power, confidence, femininity, and sex appeal. I also love how Rhianna made sure to show case her collection in the way it as intended to be, all inclusive. Based on an interview, Rhianna stated, that all women deserve to feel beautiful and sexy regardless of her body shape or what she’s going through in life. Her line up of models included plus size, petite, fit, skinny, tall, pregnant, tattooed, large breasts, small breast, short hair, long hair, straight hair, natural hair, and so on. Basically, there was a representative of most women on that stage and I love Rhianna for doing that. It makes it so much easier to relate to her brand.
Now for the collection I really loved the pieces and all of the matching sets, there was something for everyone on stage. She had really cute bralette and pantie sets, one pieces, robes, one pieces, and many more. I also noticed that each look was simple and appeared comfortable to wear especially with all of the moving around and dancing the models participated in. Rhianna created a lingerie collection for the everyday woman and that’s what makes her stand out. There are pieces for everyday wear as well as occasion, and she has items that make it possible for anyone to wear them regardless of their body type. Overall great show and I honestly think this is the beginning of something great for Rhianna and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next! Savage X Fenty is definitely going to be on my wish list!
